To most people, especially here in the South, the “dog days of summer” refers to the hottest and most humid days of the year when our furry friends tend to be a bit lazier, and life’s hectic pace slows down, just before the return of school days, football and cooler autumn temps. This definition is accurate; however, the true origin of the phrase comes from the Greeks and Romans who referred to the “dog days” as the time when the dog star Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, during the hottest months of the year.
No matter why we call them the “dog days of summer” and because of the extreme heat and humidity at this time of year, especially in the Brumby Chair Company’s hometown of Marietta, Georgia, these days of late summer are a time to slow down, relax and reset. So, during these next few weeks, be sure to find your favorite Brumby Rocker and enjoy some downtime!
